Insomnia Treatment Music from Sleep Patterns

Custom designed “brain music” can help inveterate insomniacs to sleep. Researchers at the University of Toronto studied the rhythmic and tonal patterns that create a meditative mood in an individual, and then devised unique musical passages that create the same brainwave patterns when a person is trying to sleep. The therapy reduced anxiety and promoted sleep in people who suffered from insomnia for years, and unlike tranquilizers and sedatives, it causes no side effects.

In a study, conducted by the Louisville School of Nursing, where various insomnia treatment music was played to subjects falling asleep, Classical and New Age music helped 24 out of 25 people with sleeping problems fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. It also helped those who woke during the night go back to sleep.

Examples are beat music, which is quiet, melodic pieces with slow beats and few, if any, rhythmic accents. Classical music has many slow movements; you might try different periods of classical music such as G. F. Handel's “Water Music” or Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons.” New age music would include Yanni and John Tesh.

Begin to play the music softly and somewhat quietly as if a background noise and if that doesn't work, play it closer to you where your brain can absorb it better.
