5 Ways To Fall Asleep
There are many different ways a person could help themselves fall asleep if they are having trouble with this sometimes difficult process. Falling asleep should only take between five and ten minutes and if it takes longer, then you have a problem.
One is to be sure that your sleep hygiene is in order. It is important that your bedroom is not too cold or not too hot and that you are only using your bedroom for sleep and sex. There should not be a television in your bedroom or any reading material for this sends your body the wrong message. You should also have a good bed for sleeping because people spend most of their lives in bed so why suffer with a bad bed.
Many people swear they can fall asleep better by eating a light meal with some type of tryptophan in it such as turkey and cheese about an hour before bedtime and washing it down with a glass of warm milk or some type of herbal tea. This may work for some if the meal is not too large and not right before retiring to bed. The warm milk and other beverages have ingredients that help to soothe the central nervous system which is what keeps many people awake.

Be sure to dress comfortably when going to bed. It is what you think and feel is comfortable, not what your partner thinks or feels is appropriate, they are not the ones with the trouble falling or staying asleep. Some women can not sleep in nightgowns because they get tangled up in them if the toss and turn about. Some people believe sweatpants and a t-shirt are comfortable but must keep the house cooler at night in order to even out their body temperature.
Light exercise before bed, about an hour or two before bed, will help to release endorphins in the brain which will help to make a person sleepy. Exercise should not be strenuous and be something like yoga or Ti chi, meditating with deep breathing or other soft movements that are slow and deliberate. Never do any heavy exercising at least three or four hours before bedtime because your body will be 'revved up' and have a hard time relaxing to sleep.
And finally, take a sleep medication if you must, but seek a doctor's advice before reaching for an over-the-counter pill. A doctor might have an attentive solution to what may be an all together different problem that is causing your sleeplessness. These are just a few natural treatments for insomnia to try before seeking medical help or medications.
